Turn an App Video into Screens to Analyze

This guide is currently available in English.

Video import turns an app recording into still screen images for Reverse Engineering. Frame extraction happens locally, and only selected imported frames are saved to the project. Analysis and code generation are separate steps after import.

Choose an app recording

Open a Reverse Engineering project, choose Import video, and click Choose video. Select an MP4, WebM, MOV, or M4V recording. Playback depends on the codec; if decoding fails, try an H.264 MP4 or WebM export. A shorter clip is easier to review when the original contains many screens.

Review the suggested frames

Wait for Finding screen images… to finish. Click thumbnails to preview them and remove repeated screens or transition frames. Check every controls the sampling interval; use Rescan to change the suggestions before you begin importing. Similar frames are skipped, so review the results rather than assuming every screen was captured.

Capture any missing screen

Scrub the source video to the screen you want and click Add current frame. Repeat for important states the scan missed. If you reach the displayed frame limit, remove an unwanted suggestion or use a shorter clip. Select the frames you want to keep and give each a useful screen title.

Choose a group and import

Use Add to to select a destination group, or choose New image group and enter a Group name. Check the selected count, then click Import frames. Imported screens retain the source video name and timestamp in their notes so you can trace them back to the recording.

Recover an interrupted import and continue

If an import partially fails, keep the dialog open and retry the remaining selected frames; already imported frames are marked Imported and are not duplicated by that retry. After success, open the saved images to edit or analyze them and continue with bounding boxes, code generation, or wireframe creation.
